Could online orders become tax free? Cabella’s is fighting back saying their web site is a separate entity and customers who purchased in the same state as a brick and morter store should not be taxed. A little background here on online orders. The general practice is if a company has a brick and morter store located in the state you live in, you pay state tax on that order. So if you bought from sam Target.com, you would pay tax on your order because most states have a Target.
